Q&A with Leonie Jennings

Leonie Jennings speaking to audience on behalf of BreastScreen Victoria

Leonie Jennings is not only one of the nicest humans that you will meet, but she is also a rockstar recruiter who genuinely cares about her candidates, clients and colleagues.

Bringing 15+ years of
Technology recruitment experience to the table, combined with her exceptional work ethic, selfless approach, and willingness to share her knowledge and experience, makes her an integral team member.

Leonie successfully juggles her busy home life (being an amazing mum and wife) as well as regularly being a sounding board and confidant to many of us at
Morgan.

From time to time, you may see Leonie leading from the front at our quarterly events or enjoying dining out at her favourite with friends.

So what makes Leonie tick? Have a read through below to learn more.

What led you to work in recruitment?

After spending 9 years with Oracle in Technical Support I was made redundant. While attending out-placement sessions with Right Management, I noticed most of the instructors were ex-recruiters and thought, I’d like to do what you’re doing. Then it was suggested as a career option following a psychometric / personality assessment that was done as part of the program.

What attracted you to working at Morgan Consulting?

It was the refreshing attitude of Andrew Aston, the CEO and Founder, who said that Morgan would never become so big that essentially your “patch” would get too small that you would be competing against each other. The other selling point was the “treating everyone as adults” and having the flexibility to do things your own way.

What is your expertise at Morgan? How many years of experience do you have in this area?

I specialise in Information Technology. I have 15 years’ experience in this field.

What roles do you typically recruit into?

My experience has been very broad, but I do have a focus on Cloud, DevOps and Infrastructure.

What are you passionate about?

Being authentic, in terms of treating candidates and clients like I would want to be treated.

Tell us 3 words others have used to describe you?

Hard working, consistent and resilient.

Who and what inspires you?

People like Turia Pitt really inspire me,as through extreme adversity she remains positive and never gives up. Everyday people who are going through illness or other traumatic life events, but who can still find things to be positive about, who don’t complain and feel sorry for themselves, are very inspiring.

What are you listening to, reading and/or watching right now?

I’m watching YOU on Netflix and just finished Ozark. I’m reading another Michael Robotham novel, the 4th in the Joe O’Loughlin series called “Bleed for Me”.

What is something many people don't know about you?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2018 and spent most of 2019 undergoing treatment. Breast cancer has now impacted my mum, older sister and her daughter (my niece), although we don’t have a known cancer gene.

I also have a huge passion for travelling, hence the photo above, which was actually in Italy in 2019, after having chemo and radiotherapy for breast cancer earlier in the year.

What is your superpower?

Recruitment of course!! Apart from that, I make a great pavlova.

At the end of 2024, what would you like to have learned?

How to lose weight! This has become increasingly difficult with age.
