Q&A with Mauricio Zarzar

This legend has been with Morgan Consulting for just a little over a year, and already, Mauricio Zarzar has been promoted to Senior Consultant.


Moving from Chile to Australia in 2015 after an illustrious career working for luxury hotels across the US and South America, Mauricio landed what he describes as his dream job here at Morgan (aw, shucks!).


Surprisingly good at hula hooping, Mauricio specialises in Supply Chain, Logistics, and Manufacturing. But what does he love the most? The opportunity to help candidates find that amazing job and, for clients, find their perfect match.


A hugely talented individual, Mauricio is someone who had zero experience in recruitment but hit the ground running during Sydney’s covid lockdown.

So what makes Mauricio tick? Have a read through below to learn more.


Give us a high level summary of your career and recruitment background.


I spent most of my career in hospitality management and the travel industry. Morgan is my first experience in recruitment.


I started my career working for the Ritz, working across the US and South America. I spent a portion of my early career as an Events Manager and then an Assistant Manager for a Five Star Luxury Hotel chain in Patagonia.


In 2015 I traded up beautiful landscapes of Chile for the sunny shores of Sydney and haven’t looked back. After 4 incredible years working as a travel consultant for a high-end agency, I secured my dream job as a recruitment consultant for Morgan Consulting.


Having spent most of my career in customer centric environments I couldn’t imagine doing anything else today. People are my passion and in a short period of time I have supported someone incredible candidates in securing their dream jobs. I know I have a future in this industry because I care about making a difference to people’s lives.

 

What is your area of expertise at Morgan?


For Morgan Consulting I specialise in Supply Chain, Logistics, and Manufacturing. I find the people who work in these industries to be incredibly interesting and relatable. I find the complexities of the industry fascinating, and I love the fact that it is an industry that is constantly evolving. 

 

Why do you do what you do?


I joined Morgan for many different reasons (amazing people, great core values, innovative business implementing top end technology, etc) but the most important is the care we put into our work here.


I like the opportunity to be able to help candidates find that amazing job and clients find that perfect match with positive, comforting, and memorable experience along the way.

 

Tell us a bit about your life outside of recruitment


I moved to Australia in 2015 from Chile and have gained my experience working in Customer Service from the Hotel and Travel industries for the last 15 years. I am a Peruvian national and very proud of my heritage, but I do hope become and Australian Citizen soon. 


I am married to a beautiful woman who keeps me centred and we have a cheeky cat called Nacho.


I am a trained cocktail maker, and my drink of choice is a Pisco Sour.

 

Do you have an special skills outside of recruitment?


I am surprisingly good at hula hooping without ever having learned it.
